MECOSTA VILLAGE — Music on the River is set to kick off 2022 with a car show and Elvis tribute on Friday.

For over 20 years, the Music on the River summer series has provided residents of Mecosta and surrounding areas with the opportunity to listen to a variety of bands. This year fans can start the season with a tribute to Elvis Presley from 6-8pm on Friday July 1 at Bromley Park.

The first performer of the season is Jake Slater. Slater is a nationally and internationally award-winning Elvis tribute artist. He is expected to perform all eras of Elvis music from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. He has performed across the country as well as in Canada.

For the second year in a row, a vintage car show will be held at the Morton Township Library from 4-6 p.m. According to event organizer Mark Baumann, more than 20 classic vehicles attended last year’s car show that preceded the concert.

Baumann explained why people should attend Music on the River this summer.

” It’s free. It is supported by the sponsors, therefore at no cost to the public. said Baumann. “We ask the fans to patronize the sponsors. It’s just good family entertainment and hopefully a good night out. But if it’s raining, we have the indoor room.

The event is organized by the Mecosta Revitalization Committee. Platinum sponsors for the event are Morton Township, Ice Mountain and the Wheatland Music Organization. The gold sponsors are Isabella Bank and the village of Mecosta.

Nine bands are scheduled to play in July and August, starting with Jake Slater on July 1 and ending with Sea Cruisers on August 26. There will be six returning bands from previous years and three new bands in August.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own soft drinks, lawn chairs or blankets, sunscreen and insect repellent. In the event of inclement weather, Music on the River will take place at The Village Free Methodist Church.
