Sinister Mopar to host a car show with a cause at Clementon Lake Park in South Jersey

CLEMENTON, NJ (CBS) — On Saturday, car enthusiasts from across the Philadelphia area will converge on Clementon Lake Park for a car show with a cause. It doesn’t take much for Sinister Mopar members to get excited about their car club.

“Love it man! Got some ground effects,” said Sinister Mopar member Christopher Allen.

“Some kids really like to hear the engines running. A lot of kids really like the lights,” said Sinister Mopar member Frank Santiago.

“We are blessed with great cars like this, so giving back to the community is the number one priority for most members of our club,” said Sinister Mopar member Charles Warren.

“We chose to do food, because you have to eat,” Santiago said.

Last year, Sinister Mopar hosted a combination of car shows and food at Clementon Lake Park. Afterwards, they called Dave Cornwell, himself a car enthusiast and director of Friends of Clementon Food Pantry.

“They came to me and said they had a huge amount of food they wanted to give me,” Cornwell said. “So I said, ‘Oh, okay, we’ll take it! And they said, “No, you don’t understand. It’s a huge amount of food.”

As in, six tons! It was a boon for the food pantry, which distributes food to nearly 600 households, totaling more than 5,000 people. The pantry works with the non-profit Collecting For a Cause.

“Dave and I team up to organize events that bring him food and raise awareness of what’s happening locally,” said Mary Warren, founder of Collecting for a Cause. “Because a lot of people don’t realize the people in your backyard are homeless or need help.”

On Saturday, October 1, Sinister Mopar will once again collect food at its car show at Clementon Lake Park from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. They hope to double the amount of food they received last year.

“I’m really excited for this,” Allen said. “I think it’s going to be even bigger than last year. It’s going to be a big hit, and I can’t wait.”

There is no charge to attend the Clementon Car Show on Saturday. This is part of a community day at Clementon Lake Park.
