The Chilliwack Optimist Club is once again inviting people to play poker while walking around town for an upcoming fundraiser.
The second annual COVID-friendly Optimist Club Poker Run Car Rally takes place on Saturday, September 11, and funds will be donated to area children in need.
“You don’t need a vintage car to participate. It’s just a fun day with something for everyone, ”said event coordinator Glenda Standeven. “People can visit six local businesses that are a bit off the beaten track.”
People will go to the six companies where they will collect cards to build their best poker hand. They get a card at every place they go.
People will need to pre-register for the event and there is a maximum of 50 vehicles allowed to participate. The cost is $ 50 per sheet poker scorecard. People have the option of purchasing additional poker sheets for $ 25 each.
Once people pre-register, they check in on the day of the event at 11 a.m. at the Chilliwack Landing Sports Center parking lot (45530 Spadina Avenue). Then they head to the six stops. The winning poker hand wins $ 250, but each entry will receive a gift bag with a door prize.
There is also a silent auction.
“Many local businesses also donated items for door prizes and for the silent auction table. We are always overwhelmed with the community support we receive, ”said Standeven.
