Auto Expo returns to India in 2023 after COVID restrictions caused the cancellation of this year’s event. Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest automaker, will use the event to showcase three all-new cars that are highly anticipated in the Indian market. Scheduled between January 13 and 18, Maruti Suzuki will showcase these new vehicles at the event.
Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-Door
Suzuki is already testing the five-door Jimny in international markets. After showcasing the three-door variant at the last Auto Expo, Maruti Suzuki will unveil the all-new model at Auto Expo 2023 in India. The five-door Suzuki Jimny has an extended length and longer wheelbase to accommodate the two additional second-row doors. Additionally, it also gets additional windows to complement the added doors, which are square in shape and go well with the Jimny’s overall vertical and boxy design.
This new five-door Jimny will continue to feature a three-spoke multifunctional steering wheel and an old-style instrument console with dedicated housings. It will also get a touchscreen infotainment system, controls for the climate control in the center console and rounded air vents.
For the Indian market, Maruti Suzuki will launch this five-door version of the Jimny to make it more practical and usable, keeping in mind the family oriented Indian buyers. This version will fall into the sub-four meter range with an overall length of less than four meters and a wheelbase of around 2,500mm. The extra length and wheelbase will free up more space for the second row of passengers and the trunk.
Maruti Suzuki Jimny will share its naturally aspirated 1.5-litre K15C Dualjet four-cylinder engine, which made its way into the updated Ertiga and XL6 and the all-new Brezza.
Maruti Suzuki Baleno Cross (YTB)
Maruti Suzuki will bring a sub-4m SUV to its Nexa dealerships next year. It will likely be called the Baleno Cross and is currently codenamed YTB. The new Baleno Cross will have a split headlight design, with the theme of daytime running LEDs and projector headlights similar to those of the next Grand Vitara.
The new SUV coupé also receives a wide grille similar to that of the Grand Vitara. It also gets a rounded roofline, door-mounted mirrors, thin roof rails and square wheel arches.
Baleno Cross will mark the return of the 1.0-litre BoosterJet three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine from the now discontinued Baleno RS. This engine produced 100 PS of peak power and 150 Nm of peak torque, while mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The engine will likely be offered in the Baleno Cross in the same condition and with the same transmission choice, with the option of a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
Maruti’s All-New Suzuki Swift
The current third-gen Swift has already reached the end of its lifecycle, and the all-new fourth-gen model has already been spied testing on European roads. Compared to the current-generation Swift, the all-new model is said to have larger dimensions, but it won’t compromise on the car‘s now-iconic silhouette and crouched stance.
The all-new, fourth-generation Maruti Suzuki Swift will also get a reworked interior, with plenty of next-gen features like a head-up display, wireless charging, and side and curtain airbags. Under the hood, however, it’s expected to have the same heart in the form of the next-generation K12C Dualjet 90hp 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine.
