LISD Communications Department Recognized at State Conference

Laredo Independent School District’s Communications Department has been recognized among the best in the state of Texas after winning a Best of Category Star Award, 14 Gold Star Awards, 12 Silver Star Awards, and eight Texas Bronze Star Awards. School Public Relations Association (TSPRA). ). The awards were announced at TSPRA’s annual Star Awards celebration held on February 23, 2022 in Round Rock, Texas during the association’s 60th annual conference.

LISD’s Executive Director of Communications, Veronica Castillon, completed her leadership role with TSPRA at this year’s conference. She received a plaque for her outstanding service to the statewide organization as President-Elect in 2019-20, President in 2020-2021, and Past President in 2021-2022. She also presented a session at the Service and Leadership conference for new TSPRA members.

The LISD Educational Television Department won the Best of Category award in the Video News Package category, for its “In House Fabrication of Sneeze Guards” video.

Each year, TSPRA recognizes communicators from school districts, educational foundations, associations and educational organizations for their work in the print and electronic media categories. There are 58 main categories covering various media such as newsletters, programs, posters, reports, writing, image/identity packages, photography and graphics. This year, 1,663 entries were received for the annual competition. Entries receive Bronze, Silver and Gold Star awards based on defined criteria.

TSPRA, based in Austin, is a professional membership organization dedicated to improving public education in Texas by promoting effective public relations practices, providing professional development to its members, and improving communications among Texans and their public schools.
