Both the Ellwood City baseball and softball teams had wins on Monday. The Lady Wolverines picked up a resounding 10-0 win over Beaver Falls as part of their Senior Night festivities. The boys’ baseball team will seek a mini sweep and tie the senior softball night victory when they host Mohawk on Tuesday at Sanders Field in Ewing Park.
Nardone, Wolverines Shuout Beaver Falls
Julia Nardone shut down Beaver Falls Monday afternoon, throwing a full 4-hit game to lead the Wolverines to a 10-0 victory.
Ellwood City racked up 11 hits in the contest with Kyla Servick, Mollie Street and Nardone all collecting multiple hits. Street (3 RBIs) and Servick (4 runs scored) each posted three hits for the Wolverines.
Nardone was the winning pitcher in the six-inning contest, allowing the aforementioned four hits and zero runs while striking out five batters from Tiger.
Ellwood City center Katelyn Wehman hit a home run in the second inning to power up the offensive attack. The Wolverines posted a four-run fifth inning to help secure the victory for Mercy Rule.
The Wolverines (10-2 overall, 8-2 Section 3A-2) host the next Union Area on Wednesday with a first pitch scheduled for 4:15 p.m. The team then ends its regular season with two games on the road, first against Neshannock on Monday and against Moniteau on Tuesday.
Wolverines claim 7-1 win over Mohawks
Ellwood City baseball took a late lead in a 7-1 win over Mohawk Area on Monday.
The Wolverines took the win with five runs in the sixth inning. Isaiah Lutz, Joseph Roth, Chase Wilson, Willie Nardone and Sam Landis powered up the big inning with RBIs.
After Mohawk struck first, Ellwood City tied it at one in the fourth inning as Bucky Biskup crushed an RBI brace to tie the score.
Nick Magnifico was credited with the Ellwood City win. The Bulldog gave up one run on four hits in seven innings, striking out one.
Ellwood City had ten hits in the afternoon. Roth, Lutz and Biskup all had multiple hits for the Wolverines. Roth went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Ellwood City Wolverines in hits. Ellwood City (7-7 overall, 6-3 Section 3A-1), will wrap up its home-and-away miniseries against Mohawk on Tuesday by hosting the Warriors at 4:30 p.m.
