PAULLINA—The 13th episode of Paullina’s summer party is fast approaching.

Gemboree is set to kick off with some evening activities from Thursday to Friday 23 and 24 June, although the bulk of the festivities are scheduled for the following day, Saturday 25 June.

Gemboree’s opening night will run from 4-9pm with an evening classic car and bike cruise. The cruise will travel to Mill Creek Park Lake east of town.

Friday’s fun will include a cornhole tournament in City Park, where a beverage garden and taco truck will also be parked. DJ Ryan will provide live music to dance to throughout the night.

The tournament starts at 6 p.m., while the music will start at 7 p.m. Each will last until approximately 11 p.m. Entrance to the cornhole contest is $20 per person, which includes a $5 cover charge for the dance.

The Wonderland Theater will premiere “Top Gun: Maverick” at 7:30 p.m. Friday. The film will be screened at the same time on Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $5 for ages 12 and up and $3 for children 11 and under.

Morning activities on June 25 will kick off with the annual fun 1K/5K run hosted by Zion Lutheran Church as well as a rib dinner hosted by the Paullina Fire Department in the city park. Racing will start at 8 a.m. and cooking will start at 9 a.m., with people judging to start at 4 p.m. Rib sample plates are $10.

The entry form for the fun run can be found on the Zion St. John Lutheran Facebook page or Paullina Hardware. It can be mailed or dropped off at school with the $30 registration fee. Digital forms can be emailed to [email protected] and a $30 online payment can be sent to @Dani-Rueter on Venmo.

Prairie Pursuit Gundogs of Hartley will hold a beginner-level canine obedience show at 10 a.m. Saturday in the city park ball diamond. Those wishing to register their dogs must do so by Wednesday June 22. Call Tim Paulsen at 712-348-2558 for registration and rules. Dog owners wishing to participate must have proof of vaccinations for their animals.

The city park will also be the site of the classic car show and shine, which will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., as well as a water games fundraiser for the South O’Brien Wolverines Youth Wrestling Club and the annual party at the park. The water games will take place from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., while the party will take place from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The party in the park will include a food truck, pies and ice cream, inflatables from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., face painting from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and a children’s pedal boat at 2:30 p.m.

Other events scheduled for Saturday include the parade along Main Street starting at 1 p.m., live outdoor music and a beer garden starting at 2 p.m. behind Junior’s Bar & Grill and Paddler Olympics at 8 p.m. h at Lake Mill Creek Park. A lakeside fireworks display will close the night after dark.
