“Cruiz-In” car show bringing classic cars and events to Dalton next week

Next week, as many as a thousand classic cars will be heading to Dalton for four days of shows, parades, music and fun. The “Georgia Mountain Moonshine Cruiz-In” auto show kicks off July 27 at the Dalton Convention Center for vendors and registered attendees, then opens to the public July 28-30.

The event has been held for 13 years in Hiawassee, Georgia, but organizers are moving to Dalton this year to continue expanding.

“It’s a big change for our people, it’s kind of like, ‘why are we leaving the mountains and the fairgrounds where we’ve always been?'” said event organizer Rakes. Parrish.

“They don’t understand Dalton. Once they came here and saw [this convention center] with air conditioning and seeing the shady trees and seeing the community and convenience, they’ll love it.”

“In the past they’ve had between 5 and 10,000 people in total,” said Margaret Thigpen, Dalton’s tourism manager. “They’re hoping for around a thousand cars at this show. I think their averages are between 5 and 800, but we have more real estate to use [here at the Convention Center] so that’s what we’re looking forward to. After Covid, we have no idea what will actually happen.”

Event organizers worked with Dalton tourism staff for over six months to organize the event. The program includes a Wednesday cruise parade from Dalton through the mountains to Chatsworth for pre-registered participants and a Friday evening parade from the convention center to downtown Dalton where a block party will coincide with the concert series Burr Park Summer Camp. There will also be three days of motor shows open to the public with music and appearances from motorsport celebrities. There will also be a classic car auction inside the convention center which organizers announced will air on CNBC.

“Whether you’re a car enthusiast or not, you’ll have a great time,” Mr Parrish said. “We always include something for everyone. We have kids’ events, we have face-painting here, we have craft vendors and family-friendly things and, of course, auto parts vendors. , too. We have great food, great music, bands and entertainment. And we DJ music from the 50s, 60s and 70s throughout the show, so they enjoy everything about the show. And then kids love discovering all the cars, so it’s so much fun for everyone, young or old.”

Admission to the event is $15 per person for a day pass. Parking will be available on the Dalton State College campus with a shuttle to and from the convention center. To display a car, it costs $60, which includes two admission wristbands, entry for the raffles, parking pass, dash plaque, and souvenir sticker. Car owners can register at the Convention Center.

The Dalton Convention Center is located at 2211 Tony Ingle Parkway in Dalton.
