A car seat safety event will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Jacksonville Fire Department, an effort to improve the statistic that 46% of car seats and booster seats are used incorrectly.

During the event, certified car seat technicians will help parents and caregivers learn about child passenger safety and have their car seats checked for proper use and installation.

Participants should bring the vehicle owner’s manual and car seat instruction manual, if available, with the child who will be in the car seat.

Participants are requested to allow approximately 30 minutes per car seat to be checked.

The event is sponsored by the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police, SIU Medicine and the Illinois Department of Transportation.

The Jacksonville Fire Department is located at 200 W. Douglas Ave.
